Congratulations on your new position and welcome to the Library! We are excited that you are joining our team in serving UC Berkeley faculty, students and the public. The Library plays a critical role in the University mission, and your contribution will be essential.
On your first day of work you will meet with the Berkeley Regional Services (BRS) team that facilitates the onboarding process and also with our human resources representative for a library specific orientation.
If you were hired into a position that is represented by the AFT within 30 days of your hire you will be asked to work together with your supervisor on Statement of Responsibility. Non-represented librarians are encouraged to do the same.
Librarians are hired either in potential career status, career status, or temporary status. All appointments are eligible for advancement through the ranks through the librarian review cycle process.
After your onboarding sessions, please take some time to review our Employee Guides and Handbooks section to review our helpful guides for new staff:
- New Employees
A great resource for new employees and their supervisors to learn about what goes into the making of a new employee's introduction to The Library and UC Berkeley. It also contains helpful onboarding instructions for employees and supervisors. - Library Employee Handbook
New workplaces come with new environments. Our employee handbook is a comprehensive and accessible guide to The Library's expectations, culture, policy, and procedure for new staff. - Benefits, Health, and Welfare
As a new employee, understanding and taking advantage of benefits is important. Our Benefits, Health and Welfare guide helps to map out benefits options for new employees with sections covering benefits offered, enrollment, ergonomics, life changes, workers' comp and disability. This guide is filled with helpful links.
If you need any additional assistance with your new hire paperwork, benefits elections, or enrolling in a New Hire Orientation, please check in with your supervisor or contact the Library Human Resources Department.
