The Library hires students, staff, and academic employees.
The UC Berkeley Library is an internationally renowned research and teaching facility at one of the nation's premier public universities. It ranks in the top five research libraries annually and is often ranked the No. 1 research library among public institutions.
In a highly diverse and intellectually rich environment, Berkeley serves a campus community of more than 30,000 undergraduate students, 10,000 graduate students, and 1,500 faculty. The Library comprises nearly two dozen locations, including the Doe/Moffitt libraries, The Bancroft Library, and the East Asian Library, collectively offering extensive collections in all formats and robust services to connect users with those collections and build their related research skills.
The Library's ability to serve the campus, the state, and the world as a premier memory institution depends on the quality of all who work here, both paid and volunteer staff. It is important that volunteers feel that they are doing meaningful and productive work, and we are eager to match them with jobs that suit their schedules and talents. Over time, volunteers may become active in more than one area of volunteering, while others are happier specializing in one kind of activity.
There are limited volunteer opportunities available within the Library. If you are interested in a volunteer position in the Library, email the volunteer coordinator at stuempl-library@berkeley.edu for more information. In the email, indicate your area of interest or library of interest. Volunteers are asked to make a minimum 3 hours a week/3 month commitment. There will be special circumstances where volunteers are needed for a short-term project.
