- LAUC-B Executive Committee (2024-2025):
- Thanks to outgoing members
- Jenny Nelson is the new LAUC statewide President
- Check-ins
Reports - including last reports from 2023/2024
- Treasurer’s Report (Jackie submitted report after meeting)
- Jackie and jeannine miles from LBS will be working on a Cal Answers Finance training session for the LAUC members to empower them to learn to query the new CF2 value for professional development
- LAUC-B does reimburse mentor lunches that happen outside of the Women's Faculty Club. The location of the lunch does not matter; the main concern is that we have 20 budgeted for the year
- Via email, Jackie provided the recent General Ledger Summaries for June 2024 (FY23-24) as well as July and August 2024 (FY24-25).
- LEIC
- Jackie won’t be doing LEIC reports going forward, the new LEIC Rep will be Gisèle Tanasse
- Affiliated Libraries
- Kristie can fill in Cyrana’s role with help from others
- LIBR Meeting
- No June meeting; September LIBR meeting minutes (Salwa provided after the ExComm meeting).
- Meeting with the UL (José Adrián)
- Met in July and August - Focus was introducing Suzanne to LAUC and what we do; Suzanne is especially curious about morale issues and wants to keep conversation going about that; idea of symposium came up; it would be good to start planning the fall assembly
- LAUC Statewide (José Adrián)
- Met in August and early September
- Danielle created good intro to LAUC that will be shared soon
- How to get back ups when people can’t be there - this came up with LAUC-B NEC, Kate helped out; don’t want to step on toes, but want to keep things moving
- Task Force on Academic Status - doing wide search into how different exceptions are granted, like PI status; Michelle Potter from UCR will be new chair
- RPD committee awarded more than $30K in research grants to LAUC members
Continuing Business
- None brought forth
New Business
- Intros
- LAUC-B Conference (Christina)
- Last conference - Fall 2021 (virtual), theme: Reimagining Libraries Through Critical Practices; other conferences were traditionally in person
- Planning the conference is a 2-year process
- Feedback positive; interest from other UCs (some funding came from LAUC in the past)
- We have skipped recent years due to the sense that we lack capacity
- Should we try again? Put out call for volunteers for the conference committee and chair roles? In-person may be too expensive, but perhaps we can afford an online conference
- Having a social event in-person associated with anything online would be good
- Impression is that people want this, but it may be hard to find people able to commit to working on it
- With campus discussion of APM 360, might be helpful to have venue to showcase research that librarians have already done / are doing
- Do we need theme first? Maybe ‘librarian scholarship’ is enough of a theme?
- ExComm voted to at least put out the call and see if there is interest
- Distinguished Librarian Award Committee (José Adrián)
- Seeking committee members. Involves ~5 meetings, reviewing 3-5 packets, plus planning the celebration
- Because of late start, will likely be early spring instead of late fall this time
- Last time there were 4 members plus faculty
- Will put out call to rest of LAUC-B
- It could help to have brief drop-in Zoom session over lunch for people to learn more about the award - how to nominate, what the committee does
- Affiliated Affairs Chair (Christina)
- VC/Chair Elect is supposed to serve on Committee of Affiliated Libraries Affairs (CALA) - is this still a thing? CALA exists more as concept - consists of 3 people - affiliated rep on Excomm, plus person elected to this role, plus ex officio LAUC-B VC/Chair Elect; Kristie to send info to Christina that will hopefully straighten this out
- Move LAUC-B meeting time (Christina)
- M,T,TH,F? (Wednesday 9-10:30)
- Current time doesn’t work for Salwa, but she will be leaving ExComm and UCB
- Christina will reach out to Salwa, and to Nominating and Elections, and to the LAUC Parliamentarian regarding filling Salwa’s role on ExComm after she leaves
- Statewide Transition Meeting (Christina)
- update to APM 360 - CoUL worked with LAUC last time on 360, but this time CoUL was bypassed; resistance to putting it on statewide agenda; impacts all librarians, not just represented; university has issue with saying that librarians do instruction and research; university not engaging with us on language; more discussion
- 2024-2025 CAPA nominees (Sam)
- Academic Review Workshop - Monday, October 21 from 10-11:30am
- RI Workshop - Thursday, October 24 from 11am-12pm
- It can be a struggle to find people to serve on CAPA who can make the time and meet the requirements (career status; past participation in ad hoc reviews); is the usual NEC recruiting form effective in recruiting new members?
- Sam and Jenny Nelson are rolling off CAPA, so there are 2 slots to fill (one affiliated)
- The Executive Committee elected the new CAPA members: Jeremy Ott and Sine Hwang Jensen (Affiliated Library Representative)
We adjourned at 11:36am
