LAUCB Executive Committee Meeting Minutes
Wednesday, March 13, 2024,
10am-11:15am (Ex Comm joining Cabinet meeting at 11:15).

Reports
 

• Treasurer’s Report (Jackie)
  • Met with LBS re- travel funds: Is there an easier way for librarians to keep track of unused funds? No: we can submit ticket to LBS, or keep track ourselves.
  • Unused funds are “rolled” into (but not added to) next year’s fund, but lack of clarity on how or if we can use these; seems to be just part of the contractual obligation. Unknown what would happen if everyone actually used their funds - would Library have enough to meet obligation?
  • Mention made that UCSC handles this different: can we investigate this?
  • Bring to LAUC Statewide? AFT?
  • LAUCB gets $2000 for programs in non-conference years. We do still have funds there we can use for new-ish librarians event. Claude will pursue this; it is set for May 9, 2024: 3-4 on Zoom, happy hour 4:30-6 
     
• LEIC Report (Jackie)
  • LEIC offering to help cover expenses of Othering & Belonging conference (see email sent to libstaff today); this took up much of the meeting.
  • LEIC meets with Cabinet next week to discuss Strategic Plan, progress on TF goals, etc.
     
• LIBR Meeting (Christina)
  • See detailed notes linked above.
  • JMM reported on strategic plan. Faculty had some recommendations on this. 
  • Faculty also had concerns on budget. Mandatory wage increase; half covered by state. JMM pursuing renegotiating NRLF contract which will result in net gains. Faculty discussed raising student fees to help library; tabled for the moment.
  • Working on a letter for new Chancellor and new UL; tabled till next meeting.
     
• Affiliated Libraries (Cyrana)
  • No updates
     
• Meeting with the UL (José Adrián)
  • Mostly discussed meeting with cabinet that is happening later today, including Statement of Values. Proposal was for this to live on the LAUCB website. 
  • Christina asked us to email her anything we’d like discussed with UL. 
     
• LAUC Statewide (José Adrián)
  • No updates
     

Continuing Business
 

• LAUCB Shared Drive
  • Needs a  broader discussion beyond Ex Comm.
  • Maybe we need a separate shared drive for each LAUCB committee.
  • Will bring up at a future Ex Comm meeting with the heads of the LAUCB committees (April or May).

• Distinguished Librarian Award
  • Meeting with Nom Com Chair (Melissa Stoner); will get this (proposal to include staff) onto LAUCB ballot in late May/early June.
     

New Business
 

• New(ish) Librarian Event (Claude/José Adrián)
  • See info under Treasurer’s Report, above. Will be May 9. “Save the Date” coming soon.
     
• CAPA Kick-Off Meeting (José Adrián)
  • We were asked to sponsor their kick off event last year, can we provide coffee, etc., at first meeting of the year? 
     
• New LBS form (Christina)
  • Why must we share with “all UCB”? Seems to be a privacy issue; anyone can search Drive and see our comings & goings. LBS said they would look at this. It was also discussed with JMM who agreed that it’s an issue.
  • Proposal to draft a letter we can send to LBS about this; José Adrián and Christina volunteered to draft this and bring back to Ex Comm.

• Spring 2024 Assembly 
  • Items for discussion: Distinguished Librarians Award; location of finalized Statement of Values; reports, and such. We could have a brief Zoom business meeting and then encourage folks to come to May 9 social event.
  • A Monday Assembly in late April might work. Should be at least 30 days prior to election.
  • Finalize this at April Ex Comm.
