Candidates for LAUC-B Offices
for Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect
Celia Emmelhainz
I’m honored to be considered for the role of LAUC-B Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect. I have served as the anthropology and qualitative research librarian at Cal since 2015, including in roles as co-chair of our local research & professional development committee, on our LAUC-B conference committee, on our statewide research committee, and as chair of the social sciences council. I care deeply about the professional development and career engagement of my peers throughout the librarian lifecycle, and look forward to serving you through LAUC-B. Thank you for your consideration.
for Secretary
Abby Scheel
I am pleased to be considered for the role of LAUC-B Secretary. I started as the Head of the Arts and Humanities Division in January 2019 and still feel relatively new. I welcome this opportunity to get more involved with LAUC-B governance matters and to work with LAUC-B members from a variety of libraries and departments. Previously, I worked at Florida State University where I was a Humanities Librarian, and later took on additional interim roles as Head of the Scholars Commons and Head of Acquisitions. At FSU I served on the Libraries’ Faculty Evaluation Committee, Promotion Committee, and was a founding member of the Mentorship Committee. Thank you for your consideration.
for Treasurer
Lara Michels
I am honored to be a nominee for LAUC-B Treasurer. I have been the Head of Archival Processing at The Bancroft Library since February 2017. I originally came to UC Berkeley in 2010 as archivist for The Magnes Collection of Jewish Art and Life. I worked as a processing archivist for the Magnes collections and for other Bancroft collections between 2010 and 2015. Between 2015 and 2017, I worked as a corporate archivist for PG&E. I am finishing up my second year on the LAUC-B Research and Development Committee and currently serve on the Board (as treasurer!) of the Society of California Archivists.
for Library Representative
José Adrián Barragán-Álvarez
I’m honored to be considered for the position of Library Representative to the LAUC-B Executive Committee. I'm the Curator for Latin Americana at The Bancroft Library. As a LAUC-B member, I served two years in the Diversity Committee (2017-2019), serving as its chair in 2017-18, and I have represented the same committee as the statewide representative since 2019. I am also a member of the local organizing committee for our Library union (UC-AFT 1474). My participation in these and other LAUC-B committees has given me the opportunity to interact with other librarians, become acquainted with the organization, and appreciate the support of working with a community of like-minded individuals. I look forward to contributing more of my service to our communal enterprise by serving as LAUC-B Library Representative. Thank you for your consideration.
Ann Glusker
I'm honored and delighted to be considered for the position of Library Representative to the LAUC-B Executive Committee. I'm the Library's liaison to the Sociology and Demography departments, and also have responsibility for connecting with quantitative research activities on campus. I came to Berkeley from the University of Washington (UW), where I was the ALUW (Associated Librarians of the University of Washington) representative to the university's Faculty Research Council. Also, at the UW and before, I have been active in ALA and MLA (Medical Library Association) regional and national committees, helping the MLA create the curriculum for their new data specialization. Since coming to Berkeley two years ago, I've been on the LAUC-B Research and Professional Development Committee, am helping plan the LAUC-B conference coming this fall, have co-chaired the Library Research Working Group, and organize and host the monthly new librarian coffees. I also have done research with the support of a LAUC grant. I hope and believe that these experiences have prepared me well for LAUC-B service, and managing and leading projects in the Library Representative role. Thank you for your consideration!
