Candidates for LAUC-B Offices

Chair

Naomi Shiraishi

I am honored to be considered for the position of LAUC-B Chair-Elect. I am the Japanese cataloging librarian at the C.V. Starr East Asian Library. I have been the chair of the Committee on Diversity from 2016-2017, served on the 2017 Conference Planning Committee, and am currently serving as the Berkeley representative to the Statewide Committee on Diversity and also on the 2019 Conference Planning Committee. I have been the LAUC-B Vice-Chair pro tem since last fall and have had opportunities to discuss various issues concerning UCB librarians. My passion lies in social justice and I would like us to move forward with ideas and strategies to mitigate biases in academic library contexts. I look forward to contributing to the LAUC-B community. Thank you for your consideration.

Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect

Ramona Collins

I’m honored to be considered for the position of LAUC-B Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect. I’ve worked in various roles at the Berkeley Law Library since 2002. Interning at the reference desk was an invaluable experience while I was earning my MIMS at what is now the I School. Managing the Boalt Express service gave me the opportunity to become familiar with various collections and libraries across campus. In my current role as Head of Circulation, I'm gaining management experience by staffing the circulation desk and setting/implementing circulation policies and procedures. I have served LAUC-B as an Affiliated Library Representative, on ad hoc committees, on the committee to revise the Berkeley Procedures, and on CAPA. Thank you for your consideration.

Secretary

Stacy Reardon

I am honored to be nominated for LAUC-B Secretary. I joined Berkeley relatively recently in 2016 as Literatures and Digital Humanities Librarian. Since then, I have had the pleasure of serving on the committee for LAUC-B's 2017 conference, Focus on the Visual: Digital Humanities and Libraries. Outside of LAUB-B, I serve on the board of ACRL News, and I am co-editor of the ACRL Literature in English section newsletter. I am delighted by the possibility of collaborating with colleagues across the Library by serving as Secretary. Many thanks for your consideration.

Treasurer

Jianye He

I am honored to be a nominee for LAUC-B Treasurer. I have been the Librarian for Chinese Collections at the East Asian Library for almost 14 years. I was the Co-Chair of LAUC-B Nominations and Elections Committee (2010-2011). It has been several years since my last service and I am really looking forward to contributing my energy and skills to serve LAUC-B and the library community again. I am a careful and detail oriented person. If elected, I will try my best to be an excellent Treasurer.

Library Representative

James Church

I'm delighted to be considered for the position of Library Representative to the LAUC-B Executive Committee. I'm the Librarian for Economics and International Government Information and during my seventeen years at UC Berkeley have served on LAUC-B in various capacities, including as Secretary, CAPA, the Research and Professional Development Committee, and Research and Professional Development Statewide. I have also served in a variety of Professional Groups, including the International Federation of Librarian Associations (IFLA) where I am chair of the Government Information and Official Publications Section. It has been a few years since my last term of service and I'd enjoy working with LAUC-B once again.

Library Representative

Susan McElrath

I am honored to be considered for the position of Library Representative to the LAUC-B Executive Committee. As the relatively new Head of Public Services at the Bancroft Library, I welcome the opportunity to work with colleagues across the libraries and to be more involved in professional and governance matters. I came to Berkeley from American University (AU) in Washington, DC where I was the University Archivist and Head of Special Collections. AU was a member of the Washington Research Library Consortium (WRLC) and I served on several WRLC committees and task forces. Over the course of my career, I have held a variety of leadership positions in the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference and the Society of American Archivists. Thank you for your consideration.

Affiliated Library Representative / CALA Vice Chair

Joe Cera

I am pleased to be considered for this position. During my seven years as a law librarian at Berkeley I have served on various LAUC committees but never as a representative of the affiliated libraries. I look forward to broadening my view of what LAUC-B does for the librarian community on campus. While my time here is short compared to many members of LAUC-B, I welcome the opportunity to work on the behalf of the affiliated libraries.
