Candidates for LAUC-B Offices
Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect, LAUC-B Executive Committee
Rita Evans
I am the director of the Institute of Transportation Studies Library, an Affiliated Library, where I have worked in public services since 2001. Serving as LAUC-B Chair will present opportunities to build on my experience with both LAUC-B committees such as CAPA as well as the Affiliated Libraries where I have just completed a term as TALAG Chair. This is an exciting and challenging time and I hope to be an effective advocate for librarians at Berkeley as we respond to the findings of the Commission on the Future of the Library and the modification of the system-wide library advisory structure, and deal with ongoing issues such as retention, recruitment, and workloads in a time of diminished resources.
Secretary, LAUC-B Executive Committee
I have served in LAUC B in several capacities, recently completing a term on CAPA and also on the LAUC Committee on Research. In the past I have also served as secretary for my ALA professional development organization (GODORT) and am currently serving as the secretary/treasurer for the government information section on IFLA. My minutes are never dull and I would really enjoy working with the current committee.
Treasurer, LAUC-B Executive Committee
Toshie Morra
It is a great honor for me to be asked to run as Treasurer of LAUC-B. I began working as the Librarian for the Japanese Collection at the C. V. Starr East Asian Library in October 2013. Previously I worked as the Japanese Studies Librarian at UCLA from 2000 to 2012. While I was at UCLA, I served on the Executive Board of the LAUC-LA as Statewide Representative in 2007/2008 and as co-chair of the LAUC-LA Committee on Research and Professional Development in 2009/2010. I would enjoy the opportunity to work with experienced librarians from various units, and learn about issues concerning professional librarianship within LAUC-B.
Lisa Ngo
As a new librarian at Berkeley, I had the opportunity to serve on ExComm as a Library Representative; during my tenure, I managed the new librarian mentor program and learned a great deal about the structure, function, and value of LAUC and LAUC-B. I would like to continue to contribute to the association as Treasurer. Currently, I am a member of the LAUC Statewide Committee on Research & Professional Development and am an ex-officio member of the LAUC-B Committee on Research; I also worked on the 2009 LAUC-B Conference Planning Committee. I believe that my current and previous experiences with LAUC and LAUC-B will allow me to make positive contributions to ExComm both locally and on the statewide level.
Jason Schultz
I welcome the opportunity to serve as LAUC-B Treasurer. My LAUC-B experience includes co-chairing the Election and Bylaws Committee in 2009-2010. I am also active nationally, currently serving as Chair of the Cooperative Africana Materials Project (CAMP), a joint international effort of the Center for Research Libraries and academic libraries.
Library Representative, LAUC-B Executive Committee
Cody Hennesy
I have been working for the past year in Doe/Moffitt Instruction and User Services as the E-Learning Librarian. I believe my close involvement with online education and emerging web services at Berkeley and in higher education place me in a good position to participate in the broader conversation about the role of the librarian at the University of California. I've benefited directly from the LAUC-B Mentor program and I would appreciate the chance to support the work of the LAUC-B Executive Committee.

I have been a member of the Library community in Berkeley since 1984. And, joined LAUC in 2004 when I became the librarian for Middle East Studies. While I have been an active member of our Library community and Middle East Librarian Association, I have less active in LAUC activities. I see myself as an advocate for librarians and librarianship at Berkeley through participation in the various meetings, discussions, and union activities. Throughout the years that I have been at Berkeley, I have gained quite a bit of insight into the workings of our profession and our relation to the rest of campus community, which will hopefully benefit our organization. The position of Member at Large would provide me with the opportunity to participate in the ongoing efforts to improve working conditions as well as the condition of the library as a whole.
Liladhar R. Pendse
I would like to run for the one year term for the position of library representative. I envision serving the large librarian community of LAUC-B if elected. As a new comer to this library, I further believe that through my interaction with my professional colleagues, I will be able to learn about the complex organization like UC Berkeley library. I am enthusiastic and always willing to learn new skills. Prior to coming to UC Berkeley, both at Princeton and UCLA, I have served on various library related committees.

I would like to be considered for the position of Library Representative to the LAUC-B Executive Committee. I am currently working as a Reference and Instruction Librarian at the Business Library, and although I have only been at UC Berkeley for about five months, I am well acquainted with the current issues facing academic libraries, especially those who are actively engaged in rethinking their futures. I worked at Harvard Business Schools library from 2006 until 2012. I also have experience working in corporate libraries (at McKinsey & Company and Elan Pharmaceuticals), as well as at other academic libraries (Duke and the University of North Carolina). I am interested in serving on the LAUC-B Executive Committee so that I can be in the thick of the ongoing conversation about how we can shape our jobs -- and our profession -- so that the library continues to be at the intellectual heart of UC Berkeley. No other librarians group on campus plays as central a role as LAUC-B in creating a positive and supportive community for us, which is especially critical in these quickly changing times. I want to help LAUC-B continue to be an important part of our day-to day work as well as our future.

Since October 2010 I have been the Emerging Technologies Librarian at the Marian Koshland Bioscience and Natural Resources Library. My responsibilities include reference, instruction, and selection, and I am the liaison to the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology. I am an active member of Sciences Council, Public Services Council, the Web Advisory Group and the Web Services Review Team, and am currently serving along with Corliss Lee as Instructor Development Program co-coordinator. Significant changes have occurred at the Bioscience Library over the past year or so, and that experience may prove helpful as LAUC-B addresses major Library-wide changes in the months ahead. I welcome the opportunity to contribute to LAUC-B.
Affiliated Library Representative, LAUC-B Executive Committee
Kendra Levine
I would like to be considered as an Affiliated Libraries representative to the LAUC-B Executive Committee. I look forward to the opportunity to engage with LAUC-B and the campus library community on issues facing all of the libraries, but particularly the unique and varied needs of the Affiliated Libraries. I would like to promote more collaboration with our user groups, which I have explored from my involvement with SLA, the Transportation Research Board, and loose professional networks.
Emily Vigor
I am nominating myself for the position of Vice Chair/ Chair Elect of the Comm on Affiliated Libraries Affairs, and Affiliated Libraries representative-elect to LAUC ExComm. I am currently employed as an archivist in the Environmental Design Archives. As a fairly new member of the library community at UC Berkeley, I am interested in this position as a way to further my involvement within this community and contribute to LAUC-B. I hold an MA in Art History from Richmond University (London), and an MLIS from San Jose State University.
