After a planned outage by Pacific Gas & Electric, UC Berkeley’s power has been restored, and campus libraries have resumed normal operations.
Classes were canceled and campus libraries were closed Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday because of the shutoff, which was implemented to mitigate the risk of fire brought on by dry conditions and strong winds.
In a message to the campus community Friday afternoon, Marc Fisher, UC Berkeley’s vice chancellor for administration, and Alicia Johnson, director of Berkeley’s Office of Emergency Management, stated that as of 1 p.m. Friday, power to the campus had been reconnected and that research activities and special events on campus Friday evening could happen as planned.
