  1. Announcements:

    1. Jeremy reminded the group of upcoming "A Celebration of Library Research" librarians and staff poster session jointly hosted by LAUC-B ExComm, R&PD, and the affiliated libraries on 4/18 and its application deadline postponed to 4/5

    2. Steve alerted of "Native American collections in archives, libraries, and museums at the University of California, Berkeley" report shared by Jeff MacKie-Mason on libstaff list recently. It begins by acknowledging that UC Berkeley occupies the ancestral and unceded land of the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe, and that the campus community continues to benefit from the use and occupation of this land. Steve also shared information of upcoming events of interest ("Brexit, Britain, Scotland" lecture and "Lunch poems: Ben Lerner")

    3. Virginia shared information on two events related to Southeast Asia on 4/13 for CalDay

    4. Stacy reminded of the submission deadline of 4/18 for Charlene Conrad Liebau Library Prize for Undergraduate Research and the upcoming Digital Humanities Fair, 4/15-18, including DH+Lib session scheduled on 4/17. She also shared information on Bay Area Book Festival in early May

    5. John announced the appointment of Frank Ferko as the new Music Metadata Librarian

    6. Jianye shared that EAL librarians and some staff members attended the annual conference of Association for Asian Studies held in Denver in late March. As a part, Council on East Asian Libraries meetings included a session on roles of East Asian Libraries and Librarians in digital scholarship.

  1. Function Council reports:

    1. Cataloging & Metadata Council (A. Malik): Meeting cancelled

    2. Collection Development Leadership Group (A. Scheel): The group discussed the Ithaka Faculty Survey and the results and implications for collections, as well as the binding budget surplus and priorities

    3. Collection Services Council (J. Ott & S. Reardon): Mark Hemhauser provided an update on licensing situations, current spending and general guidelines for invoice payments for the end of fiscal year. Hannah Tashjian presented the Final Report of the Binding Guidelines Working Group and its recommendations and its recommendations, which may be released as best practices.

    4. Public Services Council (S. Mendoza): Steve shared some user surveys, including document delivery for Bancroft materials and Library website, currently being conducted

    5. Roundtable Update (A. Scheel): Jeff updated on Elsevier situation, There was also discussion about budgeting and library development program overview

    6. Web Advisory Group (L. Cunningham): Meeting cancelled. There will be testing with EBSCO Discovery Service

    7. Assessment Advisory Group (M. Hamed): Subgroup is studying results of Ithaka Faculty Survey to produce a report-a draft report will be available in May. For strategic project for Assessment Program, internal dashboard and faculty survey are to be tracked. Regarding Digital Lifecycle Program, the group discussed questions related to possible metrics and statistics. For review dashboards, a development version of the Tableau dashboards covering gate count, ARL stats, and physical collections was presented.

    1. Data Initiatives expertise group (L. Cunningham): Lynn reported about a member leaving the group and the need of updating the Selector Liaison Manual by adding data research service portion

    2. Scholarly Communication expertise group (L. Pendse & S. Reardon): The group discussed the Ithaka Faculty Survey results

    3. Teaching and Learning expertise group (L. Cunningham & J. Ott): The group discussed the Ithaka Faculty Survey, specifically the question 30 about skills and research

  1. Brief discussion of The Music Modernization Act of 2018 (J. Shepard)John introduced the article "Copyright and the Music Modernization Act" by Eric Harbeson, which is available at: https://scholar.colorado.edu/amrc_facpapers/8/. Use of pre-1972 sound recordings was previously governed by state laws, which varied state by state. The new law should improve the situation. John would be happy to pass along any related questions that you might have to Eric Harbeson.

  1. Taipei International Book Exhibition (J. He)Jianye had a report on her Taiwan trip to attend the 27th Taiwan International Book Exhibition (Feb.12-17). She also reported on her other activities during the book fair, including exploring independent and second-hand bookstores, visiting the Institute of Modern History, Academia Sinica, an important archive donor, the National Museum of Taiwan Literature, and the National Palace Museum. She acquired over 300 books.
