Renewing
You may, with a few exceptions, renew books
and other material checked out on the GLADIS system.
Online
You can renew materials on GLADIS, the telnet version of the UC
Berkeley library catalog (Special note for Internet Explorer 7, Windows Vista and/or Firefox users). You can do this by reviewing your inventory to see the due dates of the
materials you currently have checked out. You will need your patron ID
number, which is the number on your campus ID card or on your library
card, and the four digit PIN (Personal
Identification Number) consisting of your birth month and day in MMDD
format, or the four digit PIN that you supplied when you obtained your
library card. Please contact the Library Privileges Desk if you
questions about your PIN.
- Enter the library catalog GLADIS
- Type <gladis> and press <Enter>.
- Press <Enter> again to start using GLADIS.
- Type <inv> hit the <space bar> followed by your patron ID number and
press <Enter>. The patron ID number is the number on your UCB ID or
other library issued card.
- When prompted, key your birth month and day in MMDD format, or the
four digit PIN that you supplied when you obtained your library card and
press <Enter>.
- Type <ren> hit the <space bar> followed by the line number of the
item you wish to renew and press <Enter>.
- The new due date will be displayed for this item. Please write this
number on the date due slip.
- When finished, protect your privacy by clearing the inventory screen,
type <F> and press <Enter>.
For online help with renewals in GLADIS, type <help renewal>
and press <Enter>.
By telephone
Telephone renewals are available at a number of UC Berkeley Libraries.
Each respective Library's renewal phone number may be found at the top of the date due slip inside the back cover of the book you would like to renew. Please consult the renewals phone number
list to find out if telephone renewals are supported.
In person
You may renew material in person at the circulation desk of the lending
library. You must bring the material and your library card with you in
order to renew them.
Exceptions
You may not renew:
- any item that was not originally checked out on the GLADIS system
- items which are overdue to the point that they have blocked your
borrowing privileges
- items that have been recalled by another patron
- items that have been billed for replacement
- items with a 2-hour or same-day circulation period
- some items with a 1-day circulation period
