Request for Access
to Gardner (MAIN) Stacks

The Stacks are open to those with a current University of California ID, UC Berkeley Library Card or Stanford ID. Scholars and the general public with no such affiliation who have a research need for materials indicated as MAIN in our catalogs must make arrangements with our reference staff. Arrangements may be made either through this form or in person at the Doe Library Reference Desk. Please check for the current open hours.

Changes in weekend access
Due to budget reductions, on Saturdays the Stacks are open only to University of California ID, UC Berkeley Library Card or Stanford ID holders. Day passes will no longer be issued for Saturday access.

On Sundays, use of day passes is still possible. If you plan to request a pass in person, please note that the Doe Library Reference Desk is open 1-5pm on Sundays.

Before making this request, you should use the resources of your local library, including its Interlibrary Loan service. Admission is not granted for studying, browsing, visiting with friends or family, or using the computers.

Please fill out this form as completely as possible. Permission for stack access is not automatic. You do not have permission unless you receive a positive reply from us. You must present a current government-issued photo ID along with a printout of our reply to enter the Gardner (MAIN) Stacks.
