Eurostat. Publications and statistics from the EU, with data in economics, population, agriculture, trade, transportation, and the envornment.

Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research. Consortium of institutions sharing social science data. Includes survey and census data, elections, economic and political data. Registration required - for UCB studenrs staff and faculty only.

Data Planet. Access to data from multiple government and private source providers on banking, criminal justice, education, energy, food and agriculture, government, health, housing and construction, industry and commerce, labor and employment, natural resources and environment, income, cost of living, stocks, transportation, and more. Data sources include federal, local, state and international governments and organizations.

Monthly Bulletin of Statistics. Current monthly economic statistics for most of the countries and areas of the world, from the United Nations. Includes construction, energy, finance, trade, labour, population, prices and more.

Official Statistics on the Web. Access to social, economic and general data from official government sources.  Includes statistical offices, central banks and government agencies. Features a good subject list.

OECDiLibrary. Data from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Includes data on economics and finance, trade, telecommunications, development, foreign aid, migration, and other categories.

UC Berkeley Library Data Lab. Primary data service point for the UC Berkeley libraries. Includes extensive CD ROM archive of government data from goreign countries and a Google data customized search engine.

UN Data. Wide range of economic, social, cultural, and demographic indicators: population, environment, health, economics, technology, trade, refugees, and more.

United Nations Statistics Division. International statistics on many topics, including the millennium indicators and demographic social and housing statistics.

World Development Indicators. Time series data from 1960 for 207 countries in the areas of population, labour, education, economics, the environment and much more. First choice for many statistical indicators.


Regional Coverage

Africa South of the Sahara: African Statistics. Comprehensive gateway site for links to data on Africa.

African Development Indicators. Detailed data on Africa covering 53 African countries from 1961 to present. Includes data on social, economic, financial, natural resources, infrastructure, governance, partnership, and environmental indicators.

Asian Development Bank Staistical Database System. Statistical Data from the Asian Development Bank (query at the top of the page).

China Data Online. Monthly and annual macroeconomic statistics, city and county data, industrial sector data, and census updates for China. Click "direct access for institutional users."

Council of European Social Science Data Archives (CESSDA) Access to social science data archives produced by CESSDA's member countries.

Destatis. Data from Statistiches Bundesamt, the German National Statistics agency. Includes data on population, trade, prices, wages, the environment, land and agriculture and more.

ESCAP Data Center. Wide range of data from the United Nations Economic & Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific.

SESRTCIC Statistical Database. From the Statistical, Economic and Social Research Training Centre for Islamic Countries, a subsidiary organ of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC).

Universal Database of Russian Statistics. Statistical publications for Russian and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), from 2003 to the present. Site searchable in English.


Business and Economics

Bank for International Settlements. Includes banking, securities, external debt, and foreign exchange statistics. Includes comprehensive list of central banks.

CEIC Global Database. Time series covering countries in Asia, Europe, and the Americas. Data items include: National Accounts, Industrial, Sales, Demographic-Labor, Domestic and Foreign Trade, Stock Markets, Banking, Inflation, Monetary, Forex, Investment, Tourism, and Transport/Telecom.

China Data Online. Monthly and annual macroeconomic statistics, city and county data, industrial sector data, and census updates for China. Click "direct access for institutional users."

Direction of Trade Statistics. Annual, quarterly, and monthly figures on the value of merchandise exports and imports by trade partners for 250 countries, as well as area and world aggregates from 1980 to present. Part of the IMF Elibrary.

Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) Country Reports and Profiles.  Annual and quarterly analysis of the political and economic situation for more than 180 countries, from 1996 to present.

Global Financial Database. Long runs of historical data on security markets and macroeconomic indicators for over 150 countries. Includes economic sector indices.

Groningen Growth and Development Centre. Includes the Total Economy Database (GDP data), the 60-Industry Database (employment hours and compensation by industry), & the ICOP Industry Database (productivity levels by industry).

Development & Foreign Aid

Balance of Payments Statistics. International balance of payments data from 1967 from the IMF.

FAOSTAT. Provides international time series data on food production, agricultural trade, forest products, and fisheries from the FAO. The free version of the database allows for limited downloads.

Global Urban Observatory. United Nations Human Settlements Programme. Statistical data on urban indicators, human settlements, and city profiles worldwide.

Human Development Report Statistics. Statistics from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Links to the text of national human development reports from over 250 countries and regions.

Industrial Statistics Database. International industrial statistics from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

U.S. Overseas Loans and Grants (Green Book). Loans and grants from the US government each fiscal year by purpose and country.

WIPO Patent and Trademark Statistics. Basic patent and trademark data by country by residents and nonresidents.

World Development Indicators. Time series data from 1960 for 207 countries in the areas of population, labour, education, economics, the environment and much more.

Edstats. Free education statistics database from the World Bank, in collaboration with OECD and UNESCO.

International Literacy Explorer. Compares education statistics between countries. Produced by the University of Pennsylvania/Graduate School of Education.

PISA 2003 Educational Database. Large, internationally standardised educational assessment survey administered to high school students in 41 countries (OECD).

TIMSS & PIRLS Lighthouse. Datasets from international surveys on student achievement scores in mathematics, science, and reading.

UNESCO Institute of Statistics. Data from over 200 countries in the fields of education, science and technology, culture and communication.

USAID Global Education Database (GED). User-friendly interface of data from the UNESCO Institute of Statistics: primary, secondary, and tertiary education levels, literacy and socio-economic data since 1970.


Environment

Earth Trends. Data tables on international environmental data from the World Resources Institute.

GEO Data Portal. Data from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Variables and spatial data, on freshwater, population, forests, emissions, climate, disasters, and health.

GEO-3 Data Compendium. From the United Nations Environment Programme. National, sub-regional, regional and global data from UNEP's Global Environment Outlook (GEO-3).

World Development Indicators. Time series data from 1960 for 207 countries in the areas of population, labour, education, economics, the environment and much more.


Health


AIDSInfo Online
. From the Joint UN Programme on HIV/AIDS. Includes data and estimates on AIDS and HIV infections worldwide, and other associated variables, from the 1990's.

Demographic Health Surveys. Compilation of health surveys from more than 75 countries worldwise. From Measure DHS, funded in part by USAID.

DOLPHN (Data Online for Population, Health and Nutrition). Key health indicators obtained from international data sources, including the WHO, UNDP, and UNAIDS.

Global Health Observatory. Statistical and epidemiological data from the World Health Organization (WHO).

Human Mortality Database. From the UC Berkeley Demography Department. Detailed mortality, population and life expectancy data for 23 countries. Also links to the Human Life-Table Database, with data for over 40 countries.

OECD Health Data. Comprehensive source of statistics on health and health systems in OECD countries.

Pan American Regional Core Health Data Initiative. Core health indicators for 48 countries and territories of the Region of the Americas, from 1995-2004.

Population Reference Bureau: Health and Population Data. Free database provided by a civil society organization, with 137 variables for 220 countries in the areas of health, population, education, employment and more. Most currently available year only.



Labour

Foreign Labor Statistics. Labour statistics derived from the foreign countries, the International Labour Office (ILO), Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and the EU.

Groningen Growth and Development Centre. Includes employment and working hours from 1960, worldwide.

ILO International Labour Migration Database. Information on various aspects and dimensions of migration, as well as on its impact on the labour markets of origin and destination countries.

LABORSTA: ILO Database on International Labor Statistics. International labor statistics from 1979 to the present on employment, earnings, wages, strikes and more.

Occupational Wages Around the World (OWW). Wages data derived by the NBER from the ILO Laborsta database. Data requires advanced statistical application software.

Demographic Yearbook System. United Nations statistics on population size and composition, births, deaths, marriage and divorce and more.

International Data Base. From the U.S. Census Bureau. Statistics for demographic, and socioeconomic data for countries and areas of the world. Information dates back from 1950 and as far ahead as 2050.

Penn World Tables. Free data on population, national income accounts and prices, from 1950.

United Nations Economic Commission for Europe: Population Statistics. Demographic data for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States for population, mortality, marriage and divorce.

UN Data. Wide range of economic, social, cultural, and demographic indicators for most countries and territories of the world.

United Nations Population Information Network. (POPIN). Guide to population information on UN system web sites.

World Development Indicators. Time series data from 1960 for 207 countries in the areas of population, labour, education, economics, the environment and much more.

World Population Prospects. Detailed population data from the United Nations Population Division, for countries worldwide, from 1950 with projections to 2050.

World Income Inequality Database.   Information for over 140 countries on income inequalities at both cross-country and time series levels over the period 1950-98, with a focus on the period since 1980.


Trade

Agricultural Market Access Database (AMAD). Cooperative effort from the FAO, World Bank, EU, OECD and other international organizations. Registration required.

Center for International Data (UC Davis)
. Includes U.S. Import and export data from 1974 to 2001, US Tarriff datam NBER-United Nations Trade Data, 1962-2000 and other variables. Files are in zip format and require data documentation.

Commodity Trade Statistics Database (COMTRADE
). Detailed commodity trade data between countries from 1962. This is the world's largest depository of international trade data containing over 1.7 billion data records for 45 years. All commodity values are converted from national currency into US dollars. 

Direction of Trade Statistics. From the IMF. Annual, quarterly, and monthly data on the value of exports and imports by trade partners for 250 countries, as well as area and world aggregates, from 1980 to present.

EU External Trade Data. Via Eurostat. Commodity trade data from the European Union. Tracks the value and quantity of goods traded between EU Member States (intra-EU trade) and between Member States and non-EU countries (extra-EU trade).

Foreign Trade Statistics. Monthly statistical reports, imports and exports by country, trade balances, commodity trade.  Also contains historical data back to 1991, from the U.S. Census Bureau.

GTAP 7 Database. Global data base which contains complete bilateral trade information, transport and protection linkages among regions for GTAP commodities. Has a 2004 reference year and includes 57 sectors and 113 regions.  Available in the Doe library data lab, workstation 1.  See the Purdue University documentation for more information.

Industry Classifications. Concordances for international trade classification systems. Includes the International Standard Industrial Classifications (ISIC); Standard International Trade Classifications (SITC); and the Harmonized Commodity and Coding Description (HS).

OECDiLibrary
. Statistics section includes access to monthly statistics of international trade aggregates and detailed international trade statistics by commodity.

UNCTADStat. From the United Nations Conference on Trade & Development. See also the World Investment Directory, which offers FDI data by country. Includes international commodity price data.

Software developed by the World Bank with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), International Trade Center (ITC), United Nations Statistical Division (UNSD) and World Trade Organization (WTO). Statistics on trade in merchandise and commercial services at the world and regional level, plus historical developments, from 1980. Gender Statistics. Gender statistics from the World Bank, covering poverty, education, economic development, demographics, and political participation for world's countries.

UNECE Gender Statistics Database. Gender data from the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe. Includes population, labor, education, public life, health, crime, and violence.

Statistics and Indicators on Women & Men. From the United Nations. Includes statistical tables of national and regional data on women as compared to men in family, household, health, education, work, and politics.
