12.19.06:: Professor Wiegel - Tsunami bibliography:
UC Berkeley Emeritus Professor Robert L. Wiegel has just completed Part 3 of Tsunami Information Sources, an exhaustive bibliography on all aspects of tsunami research. His original work focused on tsunami generation (sources, impulsive mechanisms), propagation, effects of nearshore bathymetry, and wave run-up on shore - including physical (hydraulic) modeling and numerical modeling. Professor Wiegel has since expanded to an even broader scope. All three volumes are available online from WRCA's page on tsunami sources.

12.08.06:: 4th Annual Berkeley River Restoration Symposium: Restoration of Rivers and Streams (LA 227) -- Taught since 1992 (the longest-running course devoted to river restoration at a major research university), this course emphasizes understanding of underlying goals and assumptions of restoration and integration of science into restoration planning and design. Students review restoration plans and evaluate completed projects. In addition to lectures and discussions by the instructor, students, and an extraordinary set of guest lecturers drawn from the active restoration community, the principal course requirement is an independent term project involving original research and a presentation at this Symposium, 9 December 2006, 8am-12:30pm, 112 Wurster Hall.

12.07.06:: PRESS RELEASE: Dennis Underwood Colorado River Collection:
An historic collection of reports, letters and significant documents detailing and honoring nearly 20 years of work along the Colorado River by the late Dennis B. Underwood, esteemed Western water expert and former commissioner of the federal Bureau of Reclamation, will be collected and maintained under a new partnership announced today by the Water Resources Center Archives (WRCA). WRCA will join the Bureau, the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California and the California Department of Water Resources to assemble, preserve, catalog and provide public access to the "Dennis Underwood Colorado River Collection." Underwood, commissioner of the Bureau of Reclamation from 1989 to 1993 and WRCA Advisory Board member, passed away in November 2005, just months after being named Metropolitan’s chief executive officer and general manager.

08.21.06:: River Restoration at Berkeley: River Restoration at Berkeley is a new Web site created by Prof. Kondolf (LAEP) in collaboration with WRCA that documents the past four decades and ongoing restoration activities occurring at UC Berkeley. The site includes restoration research (National River Restoration Science Synthesis, Independent term project research & symposia, and PhD and master’s theses in Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning), descriptions of relevant courses (LA201, LA22, LA227, LA229, ES10, ES25, ESPM115B, CE113N, and LA228), a calendar of relevant conferences and workshops worldwide, and (coming soon) jobs, grants, and post-doctoral opportunities.
