This position is responsible for the management of the hydrology/soils program on the Almanor Ranger District. The hydrology/soils program is large and multi-faceted and is closely integrated with the fisheries program. The District watershed/aquatics improvement program is regionally recognized and has benefited from numerous partnerships and external funding sources. Duties of the position include planning and implementation of watershed inventory, restoration, and monitoring. Incumbent also provides technical hydrology and soils input and analysis as a participant in planning to other district programs such as recreation, fuels/vegetation management, and range. Serves as a key contact with numerous internal and external partners furthering fisheries and watershed management including state and federal agencies, watershed conservancies, and the public. Additionally, the incumbent will be involved with other on-going efforts such as FERC relicensing, water rights, and serving on technical advisory committees (TAC’s) in support of water quality and fluvial restoration efforts in the area. This position supervises one permanent GS-9 Hydrologist and at times, numerous seasonal employees. Desired skills in addition to a technical background in hydrology would be proficiency in written and oral communication and ability to organize and manage a large program.
Salary Range: $54,494 - $70,843 per year

Fluvial Geomorphologist:
Natural Resources Department, The Klamath Tribes

The Fluvial Geomorphologist is a scientific professional of the Natural Resources Department who performs professional and scientific ecological work in connection with the determination, establishment, and application of the hydrologic, geologic, and biological facts, principles, and procedures necessary for the conservation and management of fluvial ecosystems.
The Fluvial Geomorphologist will contribute to ongoing efforts by the Klamath Tribes to achieve the ecological goals of: (1) restoring and maintaining habitats for and populations of native fish species (redband trout, Lost River and shortnose suckers, steelhead, Chinook salmon, etc.); (2) restoring and maintaining appropriate rates and pathways of nutrient flux into and through the tributaries to Upper Klamath Lake; and (3) developing approaches that accomplish (1) and (2) in a manner that works for riparian landowners.
Under the general guidance of the Senior Aquatics Biologist, the incumbent performs the planning, coordination and execution of fluvial geomorphologic investigations and develops management recommendations within the Department, in compliance with applicable tribal and federal policies, procedures, and regulations. The incumbent will collaborate, coordinate, and communicate with other scientists (tribal and non-tribal) and with landowners.
