  • Alameda Creek Alliance Dedicated to preserving and restoring the natural ecosystems of the Alameda Creek drainage basin.

  • The Bay Institute of San Francisco Dedicated to the protection and restoration of the ecosystems of San Francisco Bay, the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, and the rivers, streams, and watersheds tributary to the estuary.

  • CALFED Bay-Delta Program The mission of the CALFED Bay-Delta Program is to develop a long-term comprehensive plan that will restore ecological health and improve water management for beneficial uses of the Bay-Delta System.

  • California Coastal ConservancyA state resource agency established in 1976 by the Legislature; uses entrepreneurial techniques to purchase, protect, restore, and enhance coastal resources, and to provide access to the shore.

  • California Environmental Resources Evaluation System (CERES) CERES is an information system developed by the California Resources Agency to facilitate access to a variety of electronic data describing California's rich and diverse environments. The goal of CERES is to improve environmental analysis and planning by integrating natural and cultural resource information from multiple contributors and by making it available and useful to a wide variety of users.

  • Codornices Creek Restoration Project Live Oak/Codornices Creek Neighborhood Association (LOCCNA), Berkeley.

  • Elkhorn Slough Foundation A nonprofit organization dedicated to the wise use and conservation of Elkhorn Slough and surrounding wetlands.

  • Friends of the Eel River Dedicated to restoring the Eel River and all her tributaries to a natural state of health and abundance.

  • Friends of Five Creeks A group of volunteers who seek to protect and restore the watersheds and aquatic and riparian habitat of the creeks of North Berkeley, Albany, Kensington, and southern El Cerrito and Richmond. The "five creeks" are Codornices, Village, Marin, Middle (Blackberry), and Cerrito Creeks and their tributaries.

  • Friends of the River California's Statewide River Conservation Organization.

  • Friends of San Leandro Creek Community group made up of citizens, students, and businesses interested in the protection and enhancement of San Leandro Creek, and in learning more about the creeks ecology. Their mission is to restore and enhance San Leandro Creek, to increase its potential as a visual and recreational amenity, to preserve its cultural and natural history, to make San Leandro Creek an economically attractive resource, and to promote a healthy environment for its native flora and fauna.

  • Friends of Sausal Creek A group of residents, teachers, students, merchants, and elected officials working together with the City of Oakland and County of Alameda to improves the Sausal Creek Watershed.

  • Information Center for the Environment (ICE) A cooperative effort of environmental scientists at the University of California, Davis and collaborators at over thirty private, state, federal, and international organizations interested in environmental protection.
    • California Ecological Restoration Projects Inventory (CERPI) A combined private/non-profit/government effort to establish a database, accessible through the Internet, containing information on restoration projects in California.
    • California Rivers Assessment (CARA) Intended to provide a comprehensive inventory and evaluation of California's river resources for use in management, planning, and policy making.
    • Natural Resources Projects Inventory (NRPI) Information on the 1000+ conservation, mitigation and restoration projects being developed and implemented throughout California.
    • Watershed Groups in CaliforniaA database of groups active throughout California.
    • Watershed Projects Inventory (WPI)  WPI chronicles past, current and future resource-based restoration, mitigation and conservation projects in or bordering California. WPI focuses on projects handling multiple resource issues involving several cooperators such as Habitat Conservation Plans (HCPs), Coordinated Resource Management Plans (CRMPs), Natural Community Conservation Plans (NCCPs), as well as local cooperative conservation efforts.
  • Interagency Ecological Program (IEP) for the Sacramento-San Joaquin Estuary Consisting of ten program partners, IEP works to develop a better understanding of the estuary's ecology and the effects of the State Water Project (SWP) and Federal Central Valley Project (CVP) operations on the physical, chemical, and biological conditions of the San Francisco Bay-Delta estuary.

  • The Los Angeles and San Gabriel Rivers Watershed Council Mission is to facilitate a comprehensive, multi-purpose, stakeholder-driven consensus process to preserve, restore, and enhance the many beneficial uses, economic, social, environmental and biological, of the Los Angeles and San Gabriel Rivers watersheds eco-system through education, research, planning, and mediation.

  • Mono Lake Committee For over twenty years the Mono Lake Committee has been working to protect Mono Lake from destruction, to heal the damage done in the Mono Basin, and to educate the public about the natural environment and wise water use.

  • National River Restoration Science Synthesis (NRRSS) Project aims to provide a national level synthesis that can be used to inform policy at local, regional, and national levels. Also see:

  • Sacramento River Conservation Area Forum Project Tracker - A prototype for project tracking, and currently contains project data.

  • Salmon Protection And Watershed Network (SPAWN) works to protect endangered salmon in the Lagunitas Watershed using a multi-faceted approach to accomplish their mission including grassroots action, habitat restoration, policy development, research and monitoring, citizen training, environmental education, strategic litigation, and collaboration with other organizations and agencies.

  • Salton Sea Restoration Project A multi-agency effort between the Salton Sea Authority and the Bureau of Reclamation to address the environmental issues of the Salton Sea.

  • San Diego Regional Beach Sand Project The first ever regional-scale beach restoration project undertaken on the West Coast of the United States. It is this region's best solution to coastal erosion -- more beaches, fewer seawalls.

  • San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC) California state commission charged with the protection and enhancement of San Francisco Bay.

  • San Francisco Bay Fund Inventory of Projects Partnership between WRCA and ICE to provide access to restoration projects funded through the San Francisco Foundation's San Francisco Bay Fund Initiative.
  • San Francisco Bay Joint Venture (SFBJV)A partnership of public agencies, environmental organizations, the business community, local governments, the agricultural community and landowners working cooperatively to protect, restore, increase and enhance wetlands and riparian habitat in the San Francisco Bay watersheds.

  • San Francisco Ecosystem Program (USGS) A broad program of multi-disciplinary research studies in the San Francisco Bay estuary and its watershed.

  • San Francisco Estuary Institute (SFEI) Mission: To foster development of the scientific understanding needed to protect and enhance the San Francisco estuary through research, monitoring and communication.

  • San Francisco Estuary Project One of over 20 Estuary Projects established by the National Estuary Program to protect and improve the water quality and natural resources of estuaries nationwide. Serves as a clearinghouse for information on the Bay-Delta ecosystem, including such topics as wetlands, wildlife, aquatic resources and land use.

  • San Francisco/Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta Estuary Project U.S. EPA Ecoplaces

  • San Joaquin River Group Authority

  • San Pablo Bay Watershed Restoration Program (SPBWRP) Provides technical and financial assistance to individuals, organizations and government agencies who undertake ecological restoration projects within the San Pablo Bay watershed. The purpose of the SPBWRP is to promote revitalization of the watershed's wetlands, rivers, lakes and streams, and to improve the health of San Pablo Bay itself.

  • San Pablo Bay Watershed Study - The San Pablo Bay watershed study, sponsored by the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers and the State of California Coastal Conservancy, will provide a framework for a diverse group of interested citizens to collaboratively identify and prioritize restoration opportunities in the San Pablo Bay watershed.

  • San Pedro Creek Watershed Coalition San Pedro Creek is the only watershed within 30 miles of San Francisco that supports migrating steelhead trout. The Coalition is committed to maintaining the watershed ecosystem through monitoring and adaptive management programs.

  • South Bay Salt Pond Restoration Project - The South Bay Salt Pond Restoration Project provides the opportunity to improve the physical, chemical and biological health of the San Francisco Bay.
