OskiCat became the UC Berkeley library catalog on June 24, 2009, replacing both Pathfinder and GLADIS. OskiCat combines the functions of Pathfinder and GLADIS, and adds some new features. For those familiar with searching for music in the two retired catalogs you will find similar search functions in OskiCat, but the new look and feel will take a little getting used to. What's New? The main interface is simplified, more Google-like in appearance and function, by default searching very broadly on *keywords* found anywhere within a record and sorting results on *relevancy* rankings. None of this was available previously on either Pathfinder or GLADIS. Old Tricks GLADIS-like: There are only three other choices (Author, Title, Subject) on the Quick Search page interface and these work as *browse* functions, very similar to what was previously available on GLADIS. This means that in looking for music we can still browse by composer/author name, retrieve a complete list of works held by that composer (in title order), then use the "Locate in Results" box at the bottom of the screen to move to the title or initial character string wanted. Pathfinder-like: An Advanced Keyword Search is available as a link from the Quick Search page. Here you can specify fields, such as Author and Title, for keyword searching (as in Pathfinder's Advanced Search), as well as apply other limits not available on the Quick Search page. As a keyword search, rather than a browse of an index, results will be displayed with *relevancy* rankings rather than in title order. If you have problems or questions about locating items in Music please do not hesitate to call the Hargrove Music Library reference desk at 642-2624 or stop by for a consultation.
