Internet access on Library computers

Starting in November 2005 the libraries at the University of California, Berkeley, stopped offering computers with full internet access to unaffiliated campus visitors.

All UC Berkeley students, faculty, and staff who logon with their CalNet ID will get unrestricted access to the internet.

Each library has a number of computers that do not require login. These are for “research access.” This means library catalogs, article databases, and other licensed resources are accessible on these computers. Some sites, for example, social media sites, are not available.

This emphasis on research fulfills the Library’s mission to acquire, organize, interpret, and provide access to information and knowledge in support of the UC Berkeley campus's goal of excellence in instruction, research, and public service.
