UC Berkeley Campus Research Guide

This is a guide to finding information about the UC Berkeley campus, including individual buildings, features, landscapes, artworks, and plans. Included are selected books, websites, and journal articles about the buildings, architects, plans, and landscapes of campus. Materials listed are in the Environmental Design Library collection, Main (Gardner) stacks, Environmental Design Archives and the Bancroft Library. Finding Plans and Maps

  • Berkeley Campus Space Plan (1981-1984) by the Buildings and Campus Development Committee. Includes floor planss; descriptions; evaluations of buildings; general condition; seismic safety; floor space(s); accessibility.
    • Vol. 1: I & R component of the long range development plan. Overall campus survey, including responses to precinct studies in volume 2.
    • Vol. 2: Academic precincts.
    • Vol. 3: Support activities.

  • Capital Projects, Planning, Design and Construction Services, UCB, includes Current Projects. (Department of Facilities Management) 1963 University Ave., phone: 510-642-2662 or 643-7724. Maintains a working collection of reduced drawings and plans for campus buildings. For access to the collection, present an official letter from a UCB faculty member stating purpose and need. There is a fee for photocopying. Call in advance for an appointment. NOTE: Contact this office only if the Environmental Design Library, Environmental Design Archives, University Archives or other library collections lack needed material.
