Finding Books

Use a library catalog to find books, journals, magazines, government reports, maps, and other materials owned by the UCB libraries. You can also follow the links on our Electronic Books page, which will take you to Google Books, Open Library, and other electronic book resources categorized by subject.

Finding Journal Articles

Search article databases to find journal, magazine, and newspaper articles. These databases index articles published in selected journals and magazines, papers presented at conferences, and other sources. Most records include citations and abstracts with links to the full text of articles (when available). To access the full text, use the UC-eLinks button. (What's this?)

BIOSIS
The most comprehensive biological sciences article database; indexes over 6000 peer-reviewed journals.

1926-present Most

GEOREF
Contains citations for articles in over 3500 journals as well as for conference papers, theses, and other publications in the fields of geology and geophysics. The database is produced by the American Geological Institute. Citations cover the years 1785-present for geology of North America, and 1933-present for geology of other areas. Some useful thesaurus terms from GeoRef include:

  • Biologic evolution
  • Radiation
  • Spatial distribution
  • Species diversity
1785-present Most
WEB OF SCIENCE
Indexes core journals in all scientific fields. Allows cited reference searching, which allows you to identify later articles which cite a given author or article.

ZOOLOGICAL RECORD
Covers about 4500 international scientific journals plus books, meetings, conferences, reviews, and electronic documents. Comprehensive coverage of literature in all aspects of zoology, including systematics, ecology, behavior, evolution and conservation. Searchable by author, subject, geographic area and taxon, with a thesaurus of about 10,000 terms arranged in 80 hierarchies.
